There has never been a better time to invest in your safety, with both the Australian and New Zealand Governments recently announcing ADSB rebate programs.
The Australian Government’s AU$30 million ADSB Rebate Program and NZ Government’s NZ$12.5 million ADSB Grant Scheme help owners of recreational aircraft upgrade to this innovative technology in 2023.
Until 31 May 2023, the Australian ADSB grant program provides a 50% rebate (capped to AU$5000) on the purchase cost and installation of eligible devices, benefiting pilots of light aircraft, gliders, gyrocopters and balloons.
Just over the Tasman, New Zealanders have until the end of 2023 to take advantage of rebates of up to NZ$2500 towards the cost of purchasing, installing or enabling ADSB capability on eligible aircraft.
Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADSB) uses both satellite (GPS) and ground-based surveillance systems to enable more efficient and safer routing. ADSB systems accurately track the position of an aircraft, transmitting real-time data to air traffic control and other aircraft.
Improving visibility across Australia’s open skies, Microair’s new ADSB Out transponder is eligible for ADSB rebate programs in both Australia and New Zealand. Designed and manufactured in Queensland, Australia, the T2000ADSB is a lightweight plug-and-play transponder with low power requirements.
For New Zealanders, ADSB Out extended squitter (ES) systems have been required in all transponder-mandatory controlled airspace since 31 December 2022.
While ADSB systems are not yet mandated in Australian visual flight rules (VFR) aircraft, they are expected to become a standard requirement. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) recommends taking advantage of subsidies through your local ADSB rebate program now.
For those in Australia, the Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADSB) Rebate Program is available until 31 May 2023 (or earlier, if funding is exhausted). Kiwis have until 31 December 2023 to apply for New Zealand’s ADSB Grant Scheme.
